The Charlotte Tennis Association and Special Olympics Mecklenburg County have partnered to create a Unified Doubles Summer Series. In Unified Doubles, a player with an intellectual disability (a Special Olympics athlete) partners with a player without an intellectual disability (a Unified partner), to compete together against similarly paired opponents. The athlete and Unified partner work together as teammates, keeping the rally going as long as possible.
Unified Doubles promotes inclusion and fosters community, as well as a deeper understanding of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The goal of Unified Doubles is to allow Special Olympics athletes to achieve their maximum potential in an inclusive setting.
The Series will kick off with an exhibition, in conjunction with Pro League Opening Night, on Thursday, June 11 at 6:15 p.m. at Olde Providence Racquet Club. Thanks to the following clubs who have partnered with us to host an event.
- Carmel Country Club – Thursday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m.
- Blakeney Swim and Racquet Club – Saturday, July 11 at 6:00 p.m.
